Knit Club A/W 24
Let the good times roll: we’re bringing the Knit Club back to real life this autumn.
Hello fellow Clubbers, I came back to announce the come back of our IRL Knit Club this autumn! I have to admit, after one month being out and about in South of France and Lisbon I needed a little while to adapt to Hamburg weather and vibe but more so to start the production of our Autumn Winter styles in the midst of 32 degrees Celsius! I am now sending my words out to straight out of the alps in Switzerland, Graubünden, a place very dear to me. While I get to soak up the sun, go on hikes and knit with Clara, we invited Sofia Hermens Fernandez, a newly graduate from Antwerp, to pop up in our store in Hamburg and present her master‘s degree to you. Read more about her, the relaunch of the Knit Club and our trip in this newest Substack edition.
Knitter’s Network: Sofia Hermens Fernandez is popping up in our faible and failure store
I met Sofia Hermens Fernandez and her sister Natalia on a trip back to her hometown Hamburg a couple of years ago when they visited our store in Karoviertel. We discussed the garment industry, the future of prestigious fashion forward art schools and her remaking of one of the traditional costumes Heinrich Vogeler designed for this wife Martha Vogeler. The painting depicting Martha Vogeler called “Frühling” is now exhibited together with Sofia’s dress at Haus im Schluh in Worpswede. [EN] I highly recommend you to go there!
Now, fresh out of school, aka finishing her MA at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Sofia will stay with us for a couple of days from August 21st to August 24th to sell her designs and accessories. With inspirations from Girlhood Studies and Sofia Coppola movies, Sofia‘s creations are a perfect blend of handcraft and intellect. She uses elements like bows, knitting, and felting to craft pieces that are both girly and strong, unified by shades of pink and white. The aim is to create garments that challenge traditional notions of femininity while celebrating its joy. Her approach is all about storytelling through rich textures and detailed textiles, aiming to make powerful statements on identity and femininity.

See you at: The KNIT CLUB Relaunch A/W 2024/2025
Itchy fingers? With autumn comes the return of the IRL Knit Club. We meet every fortnight on Thursdays from 6pm at the faible and failure store to knit, crochet and chat about current, past and planned projects.
For the relaunch, we have teamed up with Studio Butter. You can look forward to vegetarian finger food such as filled tacos, drinks (including non-alcoholic ones) and - as the name suggests - churned butter.
You'll also receive a goodie bag filled with knit bits when you buy a ticket that might be of good use if you can't bring a current project with you.
You will find all future knit club dates through the bio in our account @faibleandfailureknitclub or by signing up (via dm) to our private Knit Club group where you’ll always be notified a couple days ahead of time.
Inspired by: Luke Edward Hall and Green River Project LLC reinterpreting Swiss Design.
I have been to Switzerland, specifically the Graubünden area, probably 40 times or even more. It’s always been part of what I’d call my home and that is mostly due to my family passing down an apartment for generations. I always felt like the Swiss have a particular good approach to design that integrates well. Thinking of Vals, where Peter Zumthor won over the village’s council to bring stunning Therme Vals to life and revive the communal Center with its use of local materials. Or St. Moritz whose posters from back in the 60s have won over their visual identity until today. Recently I’ve discovered internationally acclaimed design studios stepping into the scene. Luke Edward Hall, a British Wunderkind, has taken over the design of restaurant Amaru, located in the five star Kulm Hotel in St. Moritz. And Green River Project LLC, co-founded by Aaron Aulja, Emily Bode’s partner (as in: Bode New York) took the eclectic interior of Hotel Drei Berge in Mürren, Switzerland to the next level. Speaking of which; winding your way up the Serpentines and Alp passes through Switzerland could well make you imagine to play a part in a Wes Anderson movie.
On a side note: what an amazing collection of sweaters of Luke’s!
The Knit Club basket: Our Autumn Winter Brioche Collection
I was always a big fan of Kid Mohair and Silk yarn - and I still am - until I discovered the Baby Alpaca, Mulberry Silk and Kid Mohair mix from our Peruvian supplier at Pitti Filati in Florence. For Autumn Winter, it’s the ideal choice as it is a little heavier and sturdier against the weather than its lighter companion. For this coming season, we developed a full collection of new pieces in rich shades from caramel and chocolaty brown to a deep forest green and a few peaks of blue. The colours reflect the nature you’d find throughout the Engadin area of Switzerland. I cannot wait to show you our seasonal knits coming to the stores in September and October.

New kid on the block: Vārm store is taking the next step with its former pop-up concept
Last but not least, I haven’t told you yet about the most recent opening of the varm and friends store in Karoviertel’s Marktstrasse in Hamburg. Pauline, the founder of varm and Woodway has taken on her concept of uniting young brands in one physical store from a pop-up to a steady store. Next to Cedoublé, Ena Studios, Dariadéh, Myas Studios, Baíge and many others you can find selected pieces of ours from Tuesday to Saturday and enjoy browsing the shelves.
Marktstrasse 140, 20359 Hamburg
Tuesday - Friday 12 - 7
Saturday 11 - 6
As always, thank you for reading our ‘the Knit Club’ Substack, we’ll now embark on a hike. See you back in Hamburg next week and latest to our IRL Knit Club on September 19th. 💙
